Christmas motif tree, Judy Whitman design

This is the design I embroidered for my 2013 Christmas cards.

The cross stitch design is by Judy Whitman, JBW design: Christmas Motif Sampler. Stitch count is 67w x 78h. The actual charted design comes with a lovely cross stitch border about the tree.

I worked it on 20 count Ivory Lugana fabric which is one of my favorite cross stitch fabrics. As worked this design is about 3.5 inch square.

I used Caron Wildflowers Evergreen thread which is a hand dyed variegated. One strand is approximately between a #8 and #12 pearl cotton in weight. I cut the thread such to work the reindeer, crown, rabbit in the darkest green of the skein.

The frame from Stoney Creek is outer dimension 5 7/8 inch square and is their December 2012 button frame.

My own worked piece of this design will be display on our mantle in a frame I purchased last year from Stoney Creek stitchery website.

Notice the reindeer, crown and rabbits worked into this cross stitch design? I thought that was rather neat. There is also another little thing below the crown and above the rabbit that I think is suppose to be a star, but to me it looks more like a Maryland hard shell crab (probably because I am from Maryland and love to eat spicy steamed Maryland hard shell blue crabs!).
