Wicker Chair and Flowers Silk Ribbon Embroidery Kit

Designer: Di van Niekerk, Wicker Chair and Flowers Silk Ribbon Embroidery Kit

My first large silk ribbon embroidery project is this Di Van Niekerk kit. She has a web site that offers numerous designs and several silk ribbon stitching tutorials. Her store is located in Cape Town, South Africa.

Photo to the right shows the painted / printed fabric of the design that comes with the kit.

The kit comes with silk ribbons and floss. You choose how much of the design you want to stitch.

For this project I have decided not to try and do the stitched weaving of the chair and hat. Plus I am not going to stitch the table area including the ice tea glass nor am I going to stitch over the area of the pots. If you are interested in viewing these areas stitched the Di van Niekerk website shows this design as a fully stitched piece.

When I received the kit an extra piece of fabric was included. I had to email and ask what it was for and learned it was a backing fabric. I tacked the two fabrics (printed/painted design and backing fabric) onto stretcher bars being careful to keep the two fabrics square to each other as I tacked. Thank goodness the backing fabric was included because, now that I have completed the worked piece, I do not feel that just one piece of fabric could have carried the weight of all this ribbon.
