Blue Hydrangea, Nancy Buhl design

Blue Hydrangea is a design in the Regional Quilt Series from Nancy Buhl.

I purchased this as a kit: 18-count Eggshell Mono Canvas and the threads. If I recall correctly the pattern instructions suggested to work from the center out, but for me it has always worked out best on this style of design to start in a corner.

The threads used are Caron Collection Watercolours, Perle Cotton size 5 pearl, Rainbow Gallery Nordic Gold, Rainbow Gallery Overture, and Rainbow Gallery #18 Silk Lame Braid.

The stitch count is 188 x 188 with a design area of 10.44″ x 10.44″.

The threads needed are:

— Caron Collection Watercolours one each of #017 (Blue Lavender), 254 (Porcelain Blue) and two of 206 (Guacamole). Caron Watercolour thread is hand-dyed 3 strand pima cotton, 10 yard skein. For this design it was worked in single strand.

— DMC Size 5 Pearl Cotton #367 (Pistachio Green Dark) and 712 (Cream). DMC size 5 pearl is a highly mercerized, twisted, non-divisible lustrous cotton thread. 27 yard skein

— One Rainbow Gallery Nordic Gold #ND10. This is a purple metallic, 25 yard card.

— Two Rainbow Gallery Overture #V119 (Bouquet). This is overdyed four ply 100% cotton thread, 10 yard card. Worked in single strand. Each ply is equal to size #5 pearl cotton.

— Four Rainbow Gallery #18 Silk Lame Braid #SL14 (Blue). Silk Lame’ Braid #18 consists of four fine strands of silk and four metallic filaments braided together to form one strand. I do not think it can be divided.

Note to myself, though pattern called to use single strand of the Rainbow Gallery Nordic Gold #ND10 (purple) thread I found I like the denser look of using two strands. The appropiate length to do each of the two purple squares (in a corner) is about a single length of a yard used as a 18 inch (double strand) length.
