A single grandiflora type variety, is a tender perennial (Zones 10-11). Free flowering. Upright, mounded, well-branched habit. It’s perfect in containers, window boxes, and hanging baskets. Planted alongside perennials and vegetables, petunias repel asparagus beetles, leafhoppers, tomato worms, a range of aphids, and many other pests. Prefers full sun to light shade and average, medium moisture, well-drained soil. It tolerates poor soils and is virtually disease and pest free and deer resistant. Although petunias are low maintenance plants, pinching off the tops of established plants results in bushier plants with a heavier bloom, and deadheading regularly encourages and prolongs flowering. Cutting back plants that have declined in summer heat promotes a later bloom as temperatures cool. Plant Height 10 in – 15 in. Plant Width 10 in – 12 in |

Whopper Orange Marigold Seeds
Marigolds are very frost sensitive, so they should not be sown outdoors until all chance of frost has passed. If your final frost date is late, you’ll really benefit from planting marigold seeds indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. How to Plant Marigold Seeds If you’re starting indoors, sow the seeds in a well-draining, rich soilless growing medium in a warm place. Scatter the seeds on top of the mix, then cover them with a very fine layer (less than ¼ inch (0.5 cm.)) of more medium. Marigold seed germination usually takes 5 to 7 days. Separate your seedlings when they’re two inches (5 cm.) tall. When all chance of frost has passed, you can transplant your marigolds outside. A terrific garden plant, reaching 18 inches tall, 12 inches wide, and blooming just as freely as its smaller cousins all summer long. You may get a few blooms that are 3¾ instead of the full 4 inches, but that’s a problem most of us would just love to have. And Park’s Whopper is tolerant of botrytis, the scourge of many marigolds, so expect healthy plants all season. Compact and free-blooming, Park’s Whopper sports extra-sturdy stems that won’t snap at the first rainfall or summer storm. Grow it in the sunny bed, border, edging, or containers of all types. It grows readily from our detailed seed and gives you fast results. And if you like this orange, be sure to try our yellow, gold, and the warm-toned mix of all three. |
Sunflowers: Growing sunflowers: Sow when soil temps has warmed.Sow 3 or 4 seeds every 6 inches to allow room for germination. Water well around once week depending on the weather. (Do not water around the stem directly but water in the gaps between flowers – sunflowers do not like it too wet!) Once seedlings reach 4 inches, you will need to thin down to just 1 every 6 inches choosing the strongest looking plant from each small group. When covered with 1/4- to 1/2-inch of moist soil, the sunflower seed takes five to 12 days to germinate after planted. Autumn-toned shades of gold, red, and bronze you want. Large Flowered Mix Sunflower blooms are 6-inches or more across, these blooms include bicolored and ringed varieties—no two are just alike. They appear on very vigorous 6 to 10 foot plants. Easy to grow—just direct sow the large seeds after all danger of frost. Not picky about soil type, they need direct sun. Thin Large Flowered Mix Sunflower plants 2 to 4 feet apart so that they can show off their foliage a bit as they grow. Variety Large Flowered Mix.
