California Rose

The designer is Maria Freitas. Purchased as a kit from jdr-be.com came with instructions, pre-printed cream color 8 x 10 inch fabric (worked design is 1.5 x 4 inches), three BE needles, and Ed-Mar rayon threads as needed for the design. I selected the plum color threads for the two bullion roses but was available in kits that had pearl or peach color threads for the two roses.

I selected this design because I like to work the scalloped looking knotted double cast-on stitch which form the base of the rose. Instructions were pretty clear (for the various stitches of this design) but it did help me a lot to view a youtube tutorial on working the knotted double cast-on stitch.

I did the left (larger rose) using the knotted double cast-on stitch and for the right (smaller rose) I decided to do a plain double cast-on stitch so I could view them side-by-side in this design.

From previous worked pieces that included long bullions (70+ wraps) I have learned to wax my needle before I begin each bullion petal.
