Northern Lights and Evergreen closeup
Free design. Northern Lights and Evergreen Trees is a 59w x 69h counted needlework design that uses Kreinik Metallics and Caron Watercolour threads. This design was placed in a tri-fold window card.
This counted needlework design was worked on 18 count mono canvas, Zweigart, color black and 20 count hand-dyed Weeks Works linen, color Blue Jean.

| Materials used for the worked design:Fabric: 18 count mono canvas, Zweigart, color black.
Threads: Kreinik Metallic braids in sizes #4, #8, #12 and #16. – The snowy colored outer border: two strands of Kreinik braid #4, color 032 – Pearl. The green tri-fold window card was purchased online from StonyCreek.com. They come in red or green (both with white envelops). Card outer size is 5 inch by 7 inch with oval and rectangle windows with approximate 3 inch by 5 inch oval shaped opening or 3.25 inch square opening. I lightly sprayed a high-gloss paint over the fronts of the cards and let them dry overnight before inserting the worked design. I used double sided tape to secure the worked designs behind the window of each card. |
Northern Lights and Evergreens Kreinik, 18 count mono canvas
| Materials used for the worked design.Fabric: 20 count hand-dyed Weeks Works linen, color Blue Jean.
Threads: Caron Watercolours (a divisible 3-ply thread), Kreinik Metallic #8 braid, color 001L – High Luster Silver. – The snowy colored outer border: single strand of Caron Watercolours 115 – Blush. Used 1-ply. – The trees: single strand of Caron Watercolour 169 – Moss. Used 1-ply. A single strand of Kreinik Metallic #8 braid, color 001L – High Luster Silver is used to add sparkle to the trees. – Northern Lights: single strand of Caron Watercolour 84 – African Sunset. Used full, undivided 3-ply. Using the thicker 3-ply, I decided to work fewer straight stitches for the Northern Lights. The maroon brown tri-fold window card was purchased online from NordicNeedle.com. Card outer size is 6 inch by 8 inch with 4 inch square shaped opening. I used double sided tape to secure the worked designs behind the window of each card. |
